- Rob from The Amazing World of Gumball makes a cameo in Black Hat's newspaper as a "3D background character going missing".
- Dexter and Mandark from Dexter's Laboratory appear slyly shaking hands while carrying explosives behind their backs, as an example of a rule for villains hiding their true intentions from their enemies.
- Originally the scene was Terra from Teen Titans Go! sneaking a boulder attack on a lovestruck Beast Boy but it was replaced after the initial release of the short, presumably due to copyright reasons with Warner Bros.[4]
- On the scene where it explains how the fourth rule on the evil conquest guide would be to try over, shows Flug chasing Demencia in the style of Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner from the Looney Tunes cartoons, with Flug identified as Geniopys Malvadus and Demencia identified as Locus Derremantis.
- The scene originally had Wiley and Road Runner chasing each other but it was replaced after the initial release due to copyright reasons with Warner Bros.[5]
- A clip of Gumball Watterson claiming he became a villain from The Amazing World of Gumball episode "The Rerun" plays as an example of a hero having inner conflicts.
- The aliens that appear in Vilgax's Omnitrix aside from Black Hat are an Instant Martian from the Looney Tunes cartoons, The Great Gazoo from The Flintstones, Zorak from the Space Ghost series and the Martian from the Internet meme Marcianito 100% real no fake.
- According to Diego Mejia, who animated the shot, originally Uncle Grandpa was going to appear in the Omnitrix in place of Zorak.[6]
